Key insights on digital banking, customer expectations and the future of banking in Malaysia.

At Banking Uncovered Malaysia 2026, RFI Global brought together senior financial services leaders on 27 August to explore the trends influencing the future of banking in Malaysia. Presentations covered the growing role of Islamic banking, cross-border opportunities, digital-only challengers and the customer and digital experiences that drive engagement, loyalty and advocacy.

These themes were underpinned by new insights from thousands of mobile app and website evaluations captured from our global iSky Radar  platform and survey insights from over 4,000 Malaysian consumers.

Key takeaways include:

  • Islamic banking: Islamic banking has stronger relevance with younger generations, creating new opportunities for providers that can combine credibility, digital engagement and community advocacy.
  • Cross-border opportunities: Singapore and Indonesia remain key cross-border wealth corridors, with opportunities for banks to win initially with cross-border CASAs, then convert those balances into investments.
  • Digital challengers: Digital-only banks are raising the competitive bar and redefining banking, with convenience, onboarding, rewards and digital capabilities becoming increasingly important drivers of choice.
  • Digital leadership: Mobile engagement is increasingly driving customer advocacy and loyalty. Leading institutions are raising the bar with experiences around security, family banking and financial advice.
